Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official commented the attack left him speechless and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
